Karl Dickey was born in Washington, D.C. and has lived in Boca Raton, Florida since 1979. He is married to his wife, Jodi.
Mr. Dickey has always been entrepreneurial. As a young teenager with a pool service, lawn care and even paper route at the same time. He purchased his first real business at the age of 16 the first Nu-Look 1Hr Cleaners to be located in Florida. Since that time he has started and sold a limousine company, debt collection agency, and several dry cleaners. He is now Chairman of the company that franchises Nu-Look 1Hr Cleaners.
Mr. Dickey chose not to attend college, as it would have interrupted his business expansion plans. He still lives on the same street his family had moved in 1979.
Mr. Dickey, a longtime Republican, changed his political affiliation to Libertarian in 1996 and is a strong proponent of small government, as well as property and individual rights.
In 2003 his wife had a serious auto accident which caused him to sell all but the franchise company to spend time with her recovery.
In 2005, as his wife was getting to the point of being able to walk again, he had to decide whether to retire, go back in business or get more involved in politics. He became chairman of the Libertarian Party of Palm Beach County in 2005 and was re-elected for a term through 2008. During his chairmanship he increased registered Libertarians by over 97%. Also in 2005 he filed to become a candidate State Senator in District 30. He did not win the election in November, 2006, however showed an impressive 12.2% as a Libertarian against a Democrat in a district heavy with Democrats. Mr. Dickey met many people through this process and is still friends with his opponent in the race.
Recently Mr. Dickey has chosen to expand his existing franchise business, develop a 3,000 acre aviation community in Florida, and involve himself in other businesses with the same entrepreneurial zeal he has always shown.
